Loahgad: Today and Yesterday
When i was in the forth or fifth standard, my paternal uncle took me to the famous forts of Loahgad and visapur.
As a child that was one of the memorable and adventurous trek for me. It was a start my passion towards trekking.
The fort i saw before many years was covered with thick jungles and bushes. We ate various fruits like Jungle mangos, various berries etc. The jungle was very thick with less presence of human being. We closely observed presence of Panther, wolves and monkeys with other small animals in that area. It was difficult to find a way from the jungle.
Now after more than 18 years i visited Loahgad and Vishpur fort again. Forts were there but the jungle was gone. No big trees, no jungle fruits and no animals. A good cement road is there till the base of Loahgad fort and a rough road for 4*4 vehicle for fort Visapur.
I saw many Bungalows of various superstars and rich people, built on the Jungle Land ( i always wonder how they get the permission ?) with Tar or cement roads to go. People have easy access to the forts now. One can see plastic bottles, bottles of hard drinks, all kind of garbage on these forts. Compare to Loahgad , Visapur is clean due to difficult road to climb.
Government has started restoration of fort Loahgad which is a really good step, but i am curious what about restoration of jungles?
I dont think govt. will come ahead and take steps to save our ancient monuments. But we can take some steps without anyone permission that to keep clean the fort by not using plastic bags and troughing unwanted material at the fort.
