MP Diaries Part 5: Maheshwar

As a Tour Operator I had visited many places and very few places are there where I wish to visit again and Maheshwar is one of it. 
Ghat of Maheshwar 

Maheshwar is a beautiful town situated on the bank of River Narmada.  The wisely chosen second capital of Holkar Clan by Sadhvi Ahilyadevi.  The main wada (Palace) is on the bank of Narmada River with high walls of Bastions to protect it from outsiders and also from the fast moving water of Narmada.  The wada is still intact and is under Richard Shivajirao Holkar Sarkar family and has been converted in to 5 star resort.  One can visit the place from where Sadhvi Ahilyadevi used to look in to daily matters of her Kingdom. Moving towards Ghat on River , we can see the beautiful Chhatris of Holkar family members.

Sahastradhar 

Old Name of Maheshwar is Mahishmati Nagari where Sahastrarjun used to rule. The story of blocking water of Narmada River by him and Narmada moving out in hundreds of small streams originates the name Sahastradhar area on river.  The river is as deep as 30 to 60 feet in few places and current is very strong. But one can take bath on the ghat without any hazard.

A really beautiful place and good to meditate as I tried at Sahastradhar water fall which gave me enlighten feeling.

Fort Dhodap

  Fort Dhodap from Hatti Village Trek to Fort Dhodap : 10th January 2021    Fort Dhodap is the third highest fort in Maharashtra. (4829 ft ). It is one of the most important fort in Nashik district. It is located at a very strategic location and can keep eye on huge area and neighbouring forts. We started our trek from hatti village side at 10 am around. Humid and hot atmosphere started showing its effect.    First Gate Marathi Inscriptions   There was a big road to climb on the fort which used to call as Rajmarg. The aged people from village used to tell us that through that route elephants used to go on the fort, but now no one is using that road, it is covered by the thick bushes. We started climbing by a new shortcut road which is quite vertical and took good time to reach at the first gate of the fort which is in ruined condition.   Fort Khairai : 7th December 2020 First Trek after Lockdown with old team mates of Vainateya but with new generation excellent team leaders. Fort Khairai. A fort on the boundary of Maratha Empire and Mughals in the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Koli King of Jawahar, Marathas and Mughals had owned it. No actual history available.    It his having destroyed Bastion's and walls. 2 water tanks and 1 well. 2 destroyed canons. It is having strategic important location to keep control on the old trading routes. Beautiful surrounding and views. Peth and Harsul are Kashmir of Maharashtra but with very bad and narrow roads.
